Perry’s gaffes catch attention of the media, public

By the end of the week, some of those same commentators were wondering whether the flavor of the week, one whose piquancy Texans well know, will grow flat and unappealing in the months following his nationwide rollout.

Perry’s treason comment early in the week about Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, set in motion a slight recalibration. It suggested to Rice political scientist Mark Jones that “Perry was clearly back in Texas governor mode.”

There is a difference between what a governor may say to Texas legislators, who understand that hyperbole is part of the civic discourse, and how he talks as a potential commander in chief and president, Jones said.
